3 Ways to Avoid Problems with Your Sewer Drain

An important part of your home's plumbing is your sewer drain. Below are some tips to help you avoid problems with your sewer drain.

1. Clean out your kitchen drain- This is a good way to stop grease from building up in your sink. Another good thing to do is every couple of days, flush the sink using 4 ounces (1/2 cup) baking soda and 4 ounces of vinegar. Then pour in boiling water to wash it out.
2. Check your stoppers regularly- Check the stoppers in the bathtub four times a year for things like hair and biofilm buildup. This is going to tell you whether your stopper should be replaced. Once each week, fill your bathtub 1/2 to 3/4 full of water with the stopper in your drain, and then remove your stopper. The volume and weight of the water will fill your pipes and flush your drain line.
3. Have a regular inspection- It's a good idea to have your system inspected regularly. Once or twice a year, have your septic company or a plumber come in to snake the drain lines of your home for any kind of buildups which may result in a clog. It's also good idea to have the septic tank inspected periodically. This will help with catching any small problems before they become big problems.
